US approves drug to combat food allergies

A number of food allergies are provoked by this particular immunoglobulin, such as reactions to milk, eggs, soya, peanuts, seafood and wheat. An IgE provoked allergy to the latter is different from celiac disease, an autoimmune disease caused by other elements of the immune system.

“Xolar” was previously approved for the therapy of other ailments, notably allergic asthma, but the new FDA decision indicates that the drug can now be used to protect against allergic reactions against multiple food triggers.
