The UN estimates that in 2023, 2 billion people will lack access to safe drinking water, a quarter of the world’s population. Recent studies have identified several major cities at risk of water scarcity, including London, Tokyo, Miami and Moscow. However, as always, poor communities and less developed regions of the world will be the hardest hit.
It is also predicted that by the end of this decade, some 700 million people will be displaced from their homes due to severe water shortages, leading to significant changes in global migration.
