There are fewer women in Hollywood films

The head of the study Stacey L. Smith notes that this is a catastrophic step backwards. The figure has been steadily rising over the past 14 years, so this reversal is striking and directly contradicts all the talk about 2023 being “the year of the woman.”

According to Smith, these numbers aren’t just a measure of how often girls and women are in leading roles. They reflect the career opportunities open to women in the film industry. And in 2023, those prospects are significantly diminished.
